I find the timeline increasingly frustrating. People are saying that "everyone's going to be a trader" and that "traders will be the new celebrities". Said by the same people that will fleece you and use you as exit liquidity for a few dollars. The people that have no working product and with a straight face say that their memecoin has a potential value in the trillions.
The trading we do isn't Warren Buffett investing in American Airlines or Druck shorting the pound. Belying every moralisation/godly invocation people make is this unchallenged thought that we're doing something to be proud of, that we're swashbucklers on a grand adventure, exploring new financial worlds.
No. This is a back alley knife fight where most likely one person dies in the gutter and the other hours later in the hospital. It's the wilderness and FrankDeGos is about to 1HP Dharok bomb you. The road to any 6+ figure profit you see on Twitter, assuming it's not a LARP, is paved with the bodies of thousands of underwater bagholders.
Efficient markets are good and defensible, this is not that. 99.9 cents of every dollar trading through FOMO is speculating on the ephemeral radioactive decay of the explosion of coins, whose resting value is $0.
Don't get me wrong, this is totally fine. If everyone has equal information, by all means strap your hand to someone else's and recreate the "Beat It" music video, I'm strapped to some unknown counterparty on the Robinhood blockchain as we speak. Even moreso some of the speculation leads to actual beneficial outcomes. Memecoin trading in 2023 undoubtedly funded Uniswap V4.
Just please don't moralise buying something you're going to sell in 8 minutes. Don't say "looking forward to everyone winning". Do not say "God willing our coins send". The person next to you on the train is imploring their God to help a sick family member, the person you cross on the street is hoping for their exams to go well so they can become an orthopedic surgeon. You are speculating on whether your cat coin, launched by the same person who's launched 17 other cat coins in 8 different chains, is better than someone's dog coin. Stop putting the KOLs (I hate this term) on a pedestal.
Every $ you make you are actively taking from someone else because the coins you're talking about are zero-sum. Have your clan, ice barrage someone and smite them for their entire FOMO balance, heck even have fun. Just don't think it's some noble pursuit. I'm not religious (although I grew up in a religious environment) and a big reason is because seeing the way in which people claim to believe in the word of god, believe that there is an omnipotent being keeping track of your good and bad deeds, and that there is a potential reckoning to come, yet in their day-to-day fly in the face of this professed belief makes me feel like they're disrespecting religions I don't even belong to.
Short rant over, time to continue working on my automated trading bot.
